
Test site Amsberg
Trafsense® was chosen as the reference system on the Swedish Transport Administration’s test site where third-party traffic sensors are tested in real traffic. The test site is located on the E16 at Borlänge, has 2+2 lanes and a speed limit of 100 km/h. The position and lane of each vehicle is updated by Trafsense® 65 times per second, i.e. a vehicle typically moves 0.43 m between each Trafsense® update.
Trafsense’s task is to ensure a reliable relationship between the position of each vehicle and the time it passes by the various third-party sensors that are available for testing at the test site. Trafsense solves this challenge due to its unique ability to both track the individual vehicles along the road and to record any lane changes the vehicle undertake. In this way, Trafsense also knows which lane the vehicle is in at any given time.
Data formats and interfaces are provided by Trafsys so that the Swedish Transport Administration can study individual vehicle behaviour, aggregated traffic patterns and traffic statistics with a previously unattainable precision and resolution:
